Have you met K4REN : Karen Lo ?
As a homage to her creative uniqueness, and to share the inspiration she has helped me aspire to continue my post-secondary studies within design, specifically interactions and media design at Simon Fraser University, I’ve constructed this illustration of a girl surrounded by snowflakes and flowers.
We’ve been tracking one another’s artistic and design cognitive processes across the digital and analog dumpling hotpot since our highschool heydays together, in fact, the discovery of her artist folios and sketchbooks was what inspired me to introduced myself to her in class one day.
Her presence and charismatic personality was obviously transferred to the bright hues and colors of her work, not to mention that also I’m experiencing a retro-university nostalgia since graduation a few months ago.
I was still trying to recreate organic patterns in daily life and art such as paintings and media to my sketchbook.
Karen and the Dreamcoat took approximately less time than my previous work, a few weeks to complete; inbetween a dire online flirtation, juggling last minute travel plans to California, and an exchange of studies instead of employment.
Yuki and the Snowflakes took approximately half a year to complete, inbetween studytime and note scribbles in lectures and waiting for the ex-boyfriend to finish his shift at our workplace, I’m still surprised by how many memories and anecdotes are contained within each line.
