Barcamp Vancouver 2009 session at the Great Northern Way Campus was wow! an overwhelming day in attendance; old and new friends appearances, surplus of girls design and geek ratio, available spacing for laptops and attendees in meeting rooms.
School-fresh and savvy business students, newcomers to the technology & media & art & social web scenes, and vancouver. You can also view more photos on my flickr.

Late morning running routine to another conference, once again, meeting several bright and cheery morning faces at the skytrain intersections while navigating to Clubhouse Barcamp.
Treasures upon arrival included black coffee mixed with ample portions of sugar and cream pails for a flavorful, aesthetic perky liquidation with plump muffins and scones. Next on the agenda? Initiation into scheduling and session sietas, followed up with habitual meetings with old and new friends via time-machine conferences.
Sessions (above) attended were Cameron @camcavers mashup of design and students and the industry, concerning training, future careers, necessary experience and skills, centralizing an accessible resource for who knows what and where to and how to find you.
Karen Quinn Fung @counti8 grad student communication thesis linking to public concerns of what can we contribute, to helping the problem of translink’s carefully guarded public accessibility to those who utilize it, ie. the of translink and twitter incorporation.
Raul @hummingbird604 late morning session defining freelance and free, the drift between defining value for your paid and volunteer work, establishing the values of creativity and productivity without undermining the hard work of creating something for a volunteer or paid client regardless.
After a brief brunch siesta of sandwiches, pitas, iced pop beverages, salad and croutons, discussions on other missed morning sessions, lunchtime bicycle trips to the nearby icecream venue at Mario Gelati’s, foursquare addictions, once more everyone was at back in the meeting rooms discussing and learning as hard as they could.
Haig @haigarmen self-styled West Side Story knife battles between the great debate of coders versus designers, and the clients. Finding the gap in frameworks, methodology and dancing for a common language within prototypes and documentations.
Rich @rickvug late jumpings into vinyl records and turntables sound history, archival and analog addictions bridging the generational gap. Reproducing music for CDs materialism, including new generations of listeners and mixtapes of the past.
Karen Parker @jkparker paper prototyping necessity to avoid bad usability design. Interfaces of the virtual web presence and reconstruction of hand-friendly gadgets such as cameras, microwaves and translink ticket ordering systems.
After all of these events, much time was spent with Cameron, Mike, Jim and Greg while attracting another design geek crowd to our table on another inhalation of coffee, sugar and cream.
Discussions, listening and learning outside of the regular ecosphere with new friends, too. (Hi @awesome!!) Thank you’s to the organizers and historical figures of barcamp for inspiring these events!
