Subscribing to the blog rss feed includes increased feelings of excitement and joy.
One of my favorite features of the revised WordPress admin section, is the option to compose posts in ‘full-screen’ mode: a full page of blank space that only displays the text body and another space for the subject heading. This lack of cluttered interface design was one of the main selling point of writing in a Livejournal, before they introduced intrusive, floating banner ads. (Really, LJ?)
However, click off-screen or merely swiping the mouse introduces a minimal navigation menu, Visual featuring with rich text formatting, bullet proof-reading, blockquotes, hyperlinks and helpme! button. My personal preference is the HTML mode, where the font resembles Windows98 Notepad and also allows me to edit photographs source codes without being burdened by their width/height.
Overall, it’s an almost-perfect system. One has to ‘exit fullscreen’ to resume publishing, sorting into categories, scheduling future posts and adding tags (or custom fields). I’d prefer to have the option available in full screen mode itself, but I’ll wait and see the ‘wherefore’ for this divided interaction design.
