I’ve been a little preoccupied with approaching midterms, and wrapping my abstract way of thought towards rational logic in philosophical studies, but I’d like to share a little silver lining from the stormclouds of the spring semester earlier, this year.
Despite the best of precautions, the stress and overload of schoolwork, not to mention, other pressing family duties led to a collapse of strength, both in mental and physical fatigue. However, one of the classes, that which was involved in being a Critical Thinker in speech, written and thought, this course was surprisingly where I scored a the grade B on a midterm, and an letter grade A on the final project.
At the time, I was focused on other studies in Linguistics, not my forte and overwhelming in meta information at its best description, and this surprisingly “perfect” grade for Critical Thinking, was one of the few footnotes that I did with little to no effort, from my perspective, and was almost a second-nature reliance to complete the course workload.
Also, one of our Linguistics professors was approaching her pregnancy throughout the semester, and as a thoughtful gesture, I collected signatures from the other students for a congratulatory card. Another professor strongly encouraged my interest in historical linguistics, while with a third, I learned about the ongoing machine-language research between SFU and a university in Thailand.
It’s something, that looking back upon this dismal year, that I can sincerely say, is a highlight of my academic workload, that I am proud of this accomplishment and hope to continue pursuing my dreams (and or whatever work I am best fitted for, in both mind, body and spirit).
