The Dream Works as the Mental Modus Operandi
this was a short response for an 2-page assignment, based on Freud, The Interpretation of Dreams: Sections V – VI (except E-F-G-H) – VII (only B)
On the surface, the dream-machine of the human mind is a collaboration of recent past and remote periods of daily impressions. However, the focus of the instigating agent within each dream ‘product requires “their material from any part of the dreamer’s life, (in addition to) experiences which one has not yet slept on.” (V. A, 192) As an individual that has studied mythology, folklore and superstitions within in an academic environment, the correlations between dream-imagery and the waking-reality are accurate observations of the after-effects between sleep, dreaming, and wakeful state.
One example of this dream-distort phenomenon that follows Freud’s pattern of analysis, would be the rites of passage, and emphasized importance, within the historical records of Shamanism in global indigenous cultures. Decisions concerning the transitions between childhood and maturity, status of government politics between the citizens, and communication between the spiritual world, are interpretative tokens on the basis of their symbolism and relevance to the question, and or questions presented.
Creating translations of references between the memories, and Freud’s analysis of the patient’s dream-reality, are an association of divining meaning of the human mind within an medical approach. The vocabulary is very much the similar to earlier Shamanic rituals of patterns. However, his investigations within the text of The Dream Work, are reliant on the elements and their connections, have diluted the merged dream-reality as a scene in whole. This scrutinized, and yet overlooked feature in his records of sessions with patients, are a serious point of defeasibility.
Overall, as a indefinite structure entirely constructed within the mental modus operandi, Freud’s concerns that “regarding the dream thoughts and the dream content as two representations of the same meaning in two different languages… are a manifestation of dream-distortion, was concluded as a product of censorship operating between two psychical agencies.” (v.a.200)
