20th Anniversary Sailor Moon Art Book

FISHEYE200954e

I am actually pretty excited about this.

The resurgence of the Pretty Sailor-Suited Soldier Sailor Moon has been appearing in bookstores and Amazon marketplace over the past few years. From a personal perspective, transitioning to the “scanlations” or, fan-translated manga online from an childhood interest in Greek & Roman mythology was an easy feat to accomplish (the protagonists of the series are derived from the Endymion and Selene Greek myth), not to mention the popularity of the animated series while I was still in an North American elementary school during the 90s.

I’ve been a little sad lately that majority of online galleries and fan-shrines dedicated to the series have disappeared from the internet, such as UsagiandMamoru.com and Aethereality.net, (SweetUsagi, Serenitatis and Eternal Sailor Moon are still around, though!) however, considering that it’s been nearly 20 years since the manga and anime series first launched, and their recent popularity on tumblr, it’s safe to say that there will always be a generation of fans dedicated to Sailor Moon.

If you’re interested in reading about other series she’s worked on, you can read translations at The Manga of Takeuchi Naoko.

Below are the references that I’ve found related to upcoming Art Book re-releases.

Kodansha Comics also announced that it will release The Sailor Moon Art Book worldwide next year… The Sailor Moon Art Book will be a new publication with selections of artwork from the five Japanese art books from creator Naoko Takeuchi It will also have previously unpublished art pieces as well. The trade paperback book will ship in the same trim size and page count for seven countries, include the United States and Japan.

“During the 20th anniversary Sailor Moon celebration event today, Kodansha and Takeuchi Naoko announced that a new Sailor Moon anime will begin in summer 2013. There is no word yet what the new anime series will cover or whether the original seiyuu will be returning. However, the anime series is confirmed not to be a movie series. The theme song (or one of the theme songs) will be sung by idol group Momoiro Clover Z. Source: Anime News Network.

Hello American Sailor Moon fans, it’s Naoko Takeuchi. Thank you for all the support you’ve given Sailor Moon!

It makes me very happy that so many people are caring for my precious baby, Sailor Moon, after she has crossed the sea to America. I’ve seen pictures of American fans cosplaying as Sailor Moon characters and heard that all of you are collecting lots of manga and merchandise, and it makes me happy and moves me deeply that Sailor Moon and I have received so much love, even in another country.

This is the 20th Anniversary of Sailor Moon, and there are lots of plans I’m sure you will enjoy.

First, for the Thanksgiving Day season on Nov 20, 2012 there will be a Sailor Moon box set, and also an art book will be released simultaneously worldwide in 2013. I’m sure they will both be wonderful. I know we’ll continue to come up with even more fun things in the future.  Please look forward to them!
Naoko Takeuchi”
