Birdcut Purses

Girlish Cameo

I fell in love with this purse at the thrift store a few days ago. Not only does the material of the purse and simple elegance render it as a classic, versatile accessory for ? occasions, the girlish cameo reminded me of Candice from Sense and Sensibility much-loved copy of Jane Eyre (which that I have been rereading continuously lately)

Aritzia Warehouse Sale

Aritzia Samplesale 2011

Just a day ago, I stopped by to wait patiently in three hours of a bubbling lineup for the Aritzia Warehouse Sale in Gastown. The fashion boutique’s selection of merchandise was less interesting than past-years, no doubt to the convenient location in the downtown core & (as I overheard a security guard remark to one another) with over 1200+ shoppers arriving before noon.

Aritzia is a women’s fashion boutique that offers beautifully designed clothes that are on trend, high quality, and good value. Born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1984, we have boutiques in select markets across the US and Canada, including New York, Vancouver, Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, Portland, and Seattle.

Key trends are edited and a curated collection of women’s brands, many of which are exclusive to us, evolve each season. Our staff offer personalized customer service, and our appreciation for design carries through to our boutiques, which are comfortable, unique, and cater to a customer that is feminine, youthful, cultured, social, and interesting. (#A)

We received a jaunty little black coin purse from the company, and peach mango drinks for little less than a nickel. Once inside, however, most of the fashions still available consisted of colorful striped cardigans, tees and muscle shirts for the summer-casual crowd, a large selection of jeans, dwindling boxes of wintery accessories, Olympic swag, and other necessities such as iphone cases, handbags, socks and scarves.

The winter coats were of a peacoat and 80% wool-quality, marked down from a price range of $390 to $150. Sadly, the medium-sized coats were shorter in length and wrists for a 5″5 height so I opted instead for a LG.

Sale Rating: Mediocre ;(

Sample Love

I love visiting samplesales!

Usually I’m informed of these fashionable events by newsletters for major brands and invites for local designers on friend’s pages in facebook, a terrific website for samplesales located in YVR (Vancouver!) is the essential ~ I LOVE SAMPLESALES, which is a necessary fix for my recent fashionholic addiction.

A few of the samplesales I have attended over the past year or so have included purses and handbags from Canadian-happy Matt & Nat, shoes and sunglasses from Oakleys, Converse, Keds and Dollhouse. My favorite fashion collection to visit is the annual Gentle Fawn warehouse sales with fluffy, soft overcoats that can be versatile for winter-to-spring transitions and breezy clothing that requires little to no maintenance.

Jorga by the brand Matt & Nat shoulder hobo bag, featured in the Feutre material.

Countrywest cropped cardigan from the Gentle Fawn samplesale. Very, very warm and cozy, the little tree details are lovely! I can’t wait to pair this with my cowboy boots and plaid skirt!

A factory reject from the Gentle Fawn samplesale two weeks ago at the warehouse. I love the color of the cardigan, it’s reminscient of the mystery jewels of the ocean such as the aquarime gem, and the same color as my teacup!

I particularly j’adore the cunning details in the sleeves and button lapels. Front pockets are much more comfortable to slip items into instead of side pockets. Sometimes my ipod or cellphone slips out and crashes on the pavement! I keep them locked up in a plastic case always! Since the cardigan was straight from a ‘sample’ sewing template, it cost less than $5. Wonderful !!

My brain was swimming with ideas for winter fashions and suddenly this dress appeared!! Gentle Fawn’s summer dresses have a very dainty and homemade style to them, and this winter weather dress was no exception.

The warm material and wonderful piping along the collar reminds me of a winter seagull or a feather bird friend named Wren. The belt hooks and button-up lapels are cunningly worked into the dress so you don’t notice that they’re non-existent!

The Petite Feet samplesale features an amazing collection of shoes. There were so many rainbow-hued heels and pumps to choose from!! I had a budget to mind, so I could only afford a twenty-under pair of shoes.

These canvas buckle-tops sneakers were my favorite pair, the material is a little worn because of the eco-sustainability mantra of their brand, Rocket & Candy. I look forward to wearing these with my parent’s old hippie clothes and Andy Warhol prints!

They’re also very similar to THIS pair currently being sold at the Aldo Wearhouse!

I always have so much fun exploring new trends and factory samples of the next season, or previous of fashion within our little city! Do you love samplesales too? :)
