A Premature Dreamer

the board ‘o inspiration in my bedroom
“Instead of focusing those thoughts on what I really should’ve set out to achieve and doing it quietly without the slightest hint of ego, I compared. All the time. All I achieved from the second half of 2009 were many sleepless nights and a constant insecurity about my own projects.
So this year, I’d like to improve several skills. I don’t need to shout them out to the world; instead, I’m going to keep doing what I do and only announce them as a way of updating others with what’s going on. No need to say, I’m better than you. All that matters is: Am I better?”

From a personal experience, this rings true. A few years ago, many of my conversations strayed to discussions about so and so’s ambitions or their struggles while keeping mum on my own lofty goals.
Despite that I was a solitary person and discovering interesting things every so often, I rarely acted upon them (or had the funds to do so!). And when others also became interested in the same object, I worried about being viewed as a copycat.
Eventually I realized that to avoid this, I would have to stop sharing my wish lists, those items/goals that were being broadcasted before accomplished or obtained. Less birthday present perhaps, and less friends cheering me on the sidelines but I’d rather have people in my life openly support my actions instead of only specific ones.
Still, I didn’t want to be a hoarder either, those who rely on their own bankruptcy of ideas, so I’ll still being sharing my inspirations and dreams once I’ve achieved them.
#I am going to move through life more slowly but not slow: life, return to I those idealism and determination!

Thao added these pithy words on Feb 10 10 at 1:05 amI think everyone is insecure in some degree or another. Originality is quite hard and it’s something that takes a true genius to come up with, in my opinion. In fashion, I feel like we’re going through the decades all over again, but with a slightly different flair. People are always copying something one way or another, whether it’s from nature or from another. Then again, I’m not an art student so I have no idea what the hell I’m talking about. ^^;;
Well, it’s good that you’re not wasting time worrying about how your work compares to other people’s work. I think I still need improvement in this area.
