Have you heard of Northern Voice? Moose Camp?
The event is a “two-day, non-profit personal blogging and social media conference,” hosted in the little city of Vancouver, Canada. As one of the unknown first web-blogging conference’s since 2005, featured panels by participants/speakers includes
- how blogging interacts with family life
- education, travel, photography
- community building
- establishing professional profiles
- and much, much more.
The event runs every year, thanks to the organizers: a large group of old-school street-wise, hackers, programmers, coders, photographers, journalists and entrepreneurs ![]()

I enlisted as a volunteer during this year’s event on the weekend, quietly occupying space at the helpdesk’s WordPress Genius Bar and assisting participants with helpful advice or laptop-savvy queries in regards to PHP and coding.
Mainly these consisted of template tags, fragmenting hard drives to determine RAM storage consistency, and general design-savvy notations about css and javascript. There was also quite the long list of speakers for this year’s event, hopefully next year I’ll be able to attend a session, too!
