What a very interesting post and perspective.

This may be digressing a little, but I remember having a conversation with a friend some years ago on a similar topic, particularly how stress is relieved by partaking in an activity that is supposedly the "polar opposite" to what one normally does most of the week. His profession in the academia, which is heavily focused on writing is balanced with the stress relieving visual activity of photography. While he does put his photos up on Flickr and Facebook, he does it mostly to neutralise external influences and approval that he faces during the weekday.

I, on the other hand, am a designer by profession, so my form of stress relief is in fact, writing. Not only in writing a blog, but the mere activity of keeping lists, and writing down snippets into a notebook (particularly, my planner) that is privy only to my approval balances the work that I do at the office. Of course, being a creative and all, there's doodling and doing design for personal projects as well, but writing is the one I tend to resort to the most.

Though it's a bit early in, this is one of my favourite posts of this year, so far!

Great post! People don't give doodling enough credit in our society. It's not by random chance that we learn to communicate by drawing far earlier than written language..
